A Day at the Track

Posted by admin in Racing on 12 29th, 2010 | no responses

Horse racing has been referred to as the Sport of Kings and horses have been running for centuries. They race for the purpose of gambling and today we see mainly Thoroughbreds but Arabians and Quarter horses also take to the track. Betting on these races is regulated by governments and is a significant economic activity. There are a few countries that are big on racing such as the US, New Zealand, UK, Australia, France, Japan, Hong Kong, Italy, Ireland and United Arab Emirates. Gamblers can follow and bet online on just about every race there is. With a prize of six-million dollars, the Dubai World Cup is the richest horse race on the planet. In the US, the Triple Crown is the most well known race that consists of three races: the Kentucky Derby, the Belmont Stakes and the Preakness Stakes. In the UK there are two types of racing: National Hunt and flat racing. The Royal Ascot Festival is the most popular race and has been running since 1711. The Epsom Derby is another well known race which is the second part of the British Triple Crown. Australia’s has the Melbourne Cup which takes place on the first Tuesday of November, annually since 1861.
